Dr. Ramesh Chellamuthu grew up plowing fields and gathering eggs on his family’s farm. After completing his medical training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, he was drawn to Gadsden’s warm weather and laidback atmosphere. Personal experience with kidney disease prompted him to specialize in nephrology. “My grandmother suffered from renal failure, so I understand the pain it causes in a family,” he says. “My goal is to treat patients as people – not only addressing their disease, but relieving anxiety about what they’re facing.
Dr. Chellamuthu completed his Internal Medicine residency and Nephrology fellowship at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. In 2015, he earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, graduating summa cum laude. Dr. Chellamuthu is a member of several honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi and Gamma Beta Phi. Previously, he served as medical director at DaVita Dialysis in Rainbow City and Boaz, Alabama, and as a member of the physician council at Nephrology Practice Solutions (NPS). Today, he is Chairman of the QA/PI Committee, Chief of Nephrology, Chief of Staff Elect, and serves on the medical executive and Credentialing committee at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
